Leyla Aliyeva Attends the Opening of a Photo Exhibition Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Nature Conservation in Azerbaijan at the Seaside National Park
On July 16, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, Leyla Aliyeva, attended the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition titled “National Parks – 12 Wonders of Azerbaijan” at the Seaside National Park. The event is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of nature conservation activities in Azerbaijan.
Organized by the IDEA Public Union, the exhibition showcases the rich biodiversity, nature, and flora and fauna of Azerbaijan’s protected areas and national parks through the lens of talented photographers.
It is worth noting that systematic nature protection in Azerbaijan began in 1925 with the establishment of the country’s first state nature reserve – the Goygol Reserve. Today, Azerbaijan has 12 national parks, 9 state nature reserves, and 24 state nature sanctuaries.
Under the leadership of Leyla Aliyeva, the project has produced eight documentary films, and hundreds of videos and photographs shared on social media have garnered the interest of millions of viewers. This photo exhibition is one of the most vivid and impactful results of that project. The exhibited images not only highlight the natural wonders of Azerbaijan but also play an important role in raising environmental awareness. Viewers gain a deeper understanding of the importance of nature conservation and human responsibility toward the environment.
The "12 Wonders of Azerbaijan" project features national parks representing various geographic regions and ecosystems of the country. These include Zangazur National Park named after academician Hasan Aliyev, Aghgol, Shirvan, Hirkan, Altiaghaj, Absheron, Shahdagh, Goygol, Samur-Yalama, Gizilaghaj, Akhar-Bakhar, and Ilisu National Parks. These parks play a vital role in the preservation and promotion of Azerbaijan's rich natural heritage.
The photos presented at the exhibition, which will remain open throughout the summer in the Seaside Park, were taken by renowned photographers Igor Byshnyov, Ilya Byshnyov, Natalia Teterevskaya, and Nikita Byshnyov.
