A meeting was held at the Cabinet of Ministers regarding the ecological situation of the Caspian Sea and Baku Bay.
On January 27, a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, was held at the Cabinet of Ministers. The meeting was dedicated to the implementation of the "Comprehensive Action Plan for 2025–2030 on the re-abandonment and isolation of various emergency and unfit hydraulic structures in the Caspian Sea, including emergency and decommissioned wells, the removal of offshore platforms, trestle bridges, jetties, as well as sunken and semi-submerged vessels, and other rehabilitation works," as well as to the improvement of the ecological situation in Baku Bay.
In his speech, Prime Minister Ali Asadov emphasized the importance of improving the ecological situation, noting that outdated hydraulic structures in the Caspian Sea, along with long-term anthropogenic impacts, have exacerbated pollution in Baku Bay, including the water area of the Seaside Boulevard.
As a result of the discussions, relevant instructions were given regarding conducting monitoring in the Caspian Sea, preparing an interactive map-scheme, removing emergency structures and sunken vessels, and assessing the impact of the measures taken on the marine environment.
At the same time, in order to clean up Baku Bay (the Seaside Boulevard area), instructions were given to develop an Action Plan envisaging the removal of metal structures near the shore by drawing down seawater, preventing the discharge of wastewater into the bay, cleaning up oil slicks and waste on the water surface, as well as oil-contaminated soil.
