President Ilham Aliyev raises the Azerbaijani tricolor at the State Flag Square in Baku

On November 8, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their son Heydar Aliyev visited the State Flag Square in Baku. During the visit, President Ilham Aliyev raised the tricolor flag of Azerbaijan.

After the flag-raising ceremony, the President toured the State Flag Square and viewed the conditions created at the State Flag Museum.

It should be noted that the State Flag Museum was inaugurated on November 9, 2010, by President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. Since its establishment, the museum has showcased not only the National Flag of Azerbaijan, but also the flags of historical khanates and states that once existed on the territory of Azerbaijan. Visitors have been provided with detailed information about these flags.

The museum has also exhibited around 400 artifacts representing the rich and ancient history of Azerbaijani statehood. Each historical exhibit was presented to visitors with in-depth explanations.

Due to reconstruction and restoration works at the State Flag Square in 2017, the museum was temporarily closed for renovation. During this period, museum staff worked to preserve, maintain, and enrich the collection, increasing the number of exhibits to 431.

Following the restoration, the museum reopened with a new look and layout, now featuring the "Victory Gallery", an exhibition dedicated to the 44-day Patriotic War. The gallery displays photos of the National Flag being raised in liberated territories by Victorious Commander-in-Chief President Ilham Aliyev, as well as images from the military parade in Khankendi held on the third anniversary of Azerbaijan’s victory.

The State Flag Museum consists of six exhibition halls:

Hall A features flags from ancient and medieval Azerbaijan, flag finials, symbols of power, coins, weapons, and coats of arms of 19th-century Azerbaijani cities.

Hall B covers the periods of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the Azerbaijan SSR. It includes the flag that was hung in the ADR Parliament on December 7, 1918, as well as photographs, currency notes, postage stamps from that era, and flags, emblems, constitutions, and other memorabilia from the Azerbaijan SSR.

Hall C is dedicated to the independence period. It showcases commemorative medals and stamps honoring National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the Presidential Standard of Azerbaijan, national orders and medals, the Constitution, and awards dedicated to the Patriotic War, along with flags raised on the world’s highest peaks. The hall also features the 2007 Presidential Decree on the establishment of the State Flag Square in Baku and the 2009 decree establishing National Flag Day, as well as a display of the historic 1990 decision by the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, chaired by Heydar Aliyev, to restore the national flag.

Hall D exhibits flags, medals, emblems, and shoulder patches of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.

Halls E and F display ceremonial uniforms of Azerbaijani military personnel.

Additionally, the museum features multimedia displays showing video materials about ancient and medieval Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the Azerbaijan SSR, Heydar Aliyev's contributions to Azerbaijani statehood, and President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership, military reforms, and historic victory in the Patriotic War.
