"Baku Marathon 2025" held at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation
For the eighth consecutive year, the Baku Marathon has brought together nearly 28,000 registered participants. The race saw participation not only from Azerbaijani citizens but also from athletes representing over 20 countries worldwide. The marathon route spanned 21 kilometers, starting at the National Flag Square and winding through the scenic Seaside National Park and along Baku's main avenues. In a heartwarming pre-marathon event, special walks were organized for persons with limited physical abilities and children with Down syndrome, highlighting the inclusive spirit of the occasion. Held under the inspiring motto "Conquer the Wind," the competition crowned its champions:
Men's division: Turkey's Atac Sezgin claimed gold, followed by Ukraine's Vitali Shafar (silver) and Turkey's Murat Emekdar (bronze)
Women's division: Ukraine's Natalya Semenovich took top honors, with Azerbaijan's Anna Yusupova earning silver and Japan's Eriko Soma securing bronze
This international sporting spectacle continues to grow in prestige, promoting athletic excellence while fostering social inclusion and global camaraderie in Azerbaijan's capital.
